This volume inaugurates the publication of the Tel Dan excavations. The excavation directed by Avraham Biran have uncovered important remains from the Pottery Neolithic through the Roman periods.
Dan is mentioned repeatedly in Bible, in particular as the northernmost point of ancient Israel. The first reference to Dan is in Genesis 14: 14, but the site's original name was Laish or Leshem. Laish is mentioned in the later group of Egyptian Execration Texts...
